The Memory Of Water Review

17 Nov

World renowned author Ron Ellis recently reviewed our production of ‘The Memory Of Water’… And gave us a great review too… If I get permission I will publish it here but here is a snippet ” …the audience laughing out loud at the pungent one-liners and gallows humour… the set, featuring a background of torn cuttings to symbolise fractured memories, captured the essence of the play. Another triumph for the talented Too Friendly Theatre Group.”

Check out Ron’s website www.ronellis.co.uk where you can buy his books!

The Too Friendly Theatre Company is one of Sefton’s most popular semi-professional theatre groups and has been performing in the area for the last ten years. In the last five years, we have mounted productions by some of the best-known writers in theatre.  These include Les Miserables, Alan Ayckbourn’s Time of Your Life, Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers, John Godber’s Bouncers and Shakers and Priestly’s When we Are Married to name but a few.

In November, we are proud to announce we will be presenting Shelagh Stephenson’s The Memory of Water at Ormskirk Civic Hall.  The action of the play revolves around a funeral. The chief mourners are three sisters with little in common, except that they all live with the legacies of their childhood and the impact the mother they have come to bury had.

Winner of the Olivier award in 2000 for Best Comedy, the play discusses a myriad of emotions, bouncing from hilarious hysterics to twisting sorrow and pain. Each character and every line details just what it means to lose someone who shaped you, and how to deal with that void. Even more importantly, the play suggests the importance of stepping forward towards what comes next and the life that still has to be lived. In the end, it is very simple: Sometimes a good laugh, a good cry and a good hug are the best therapy.

The play runs from Thursday  11th to Saturday 13th November
